CANTERBURY captain Matt Harper bemoaned his side’s lack of a cutting edge after a 1-0 defeat at Surbiton on Saturday continued their losing streak in the National Premier Division.
The city club lost their third game of the season but created more than enough chances to have wrapped up a win.
Harper said:”We were our own undoing really. We missed opportunities and they made us pay at the other end. They had one breakthrough but we just couldn’t get one ourselves.”
He said: “We are playing well, it is just small things in small areas that we have to change. We are not converting our chances at the moment. We are creating opportunities but we need to improve our decision-making in and around the D and hopefully it will come.
“It might just be a case of things clicking in one game and the goals will start coming.
“We have been competitive in all the games so far. We are not too far away.”
Holcombe got their league season back on track with two resounding wins at the weekend.
Holcs had only one win to their name from their opening three matches in the National South Division, but they thrashed Teddington 8-1 on Saturday and Firebrands 4-1 on Sunday to pick up six points and move to second in the table.
Eric Ross-Innes, Denzil Dolly and David Mathews all scored twice against Teddington, with Danny Laslet and Ryan Ravenscroft also on the scoresheet.
And Mathews hit a hat-trick and Ross-Innes was on target again as Holcs saw off Firebrands.
Pete Turner scored twice for Sevenoaks as they fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at Bromley & Beckenham in the National South Division.
Beau Couldrey put the hosts ahead from a penatly corner on 19 minutes, before Will Bishop doubled the lead on 38 minutes, but Turner’s strikes on 57 and 63 minutes levelled the game.
