Jen Wilson refuses to look too far ahead as she tries to plot Canterbury Ladies’ path through to the last four of the National Hockey 5s Indoor Championships in Bromsgrove this weekend.
At the midway stage, the city club sit fifth in a tight Premier Division table, a point behind second-placed Slough and only out of the top-four on goal difference.
Wilson’s side take on leaders Bowdown – who have won all four games so far – at 2.30pm on Saturday with their second game at 6.30pm against the University side.
Wilson said: “Whenever Canterbury and Bowdon play indoors, it’s always exciting – a clash of traditionally good defence and strong attacking styles.
“One result is not going to decide anything. Indoor hockey is difficult to predict and every team has the quality needed to pick up results.
“By the end of Saturday, we’ll have a better idea of what we might need to do on Sunday to secure a place in the semi-finals.”
Canterbury will be up early to take on Slough, currently second, at 10am on Sunday before completing their schedule against pointless Clifton at 4pm.
The city club kept their hopes alive of reaching the semi-finals by winning their final two games of the opening weekend back at Bromsgrove School before Christmas.
Wilson added: “Much like the first weekend, if we can get two wins from the four matches, then we have to be pretty pleased.”
Forward Eliza Brett and keeper Helen Fagg return. although midfielder Lizzie Neal (wearing 14 below) is absent and Susannah Townsend remains sidelined.
