Jen Wilson has played down the significance of facing Holcombe in a game which could see them deal their Kent rivals a blow in the hunt for the Championship play-offs.
Canterbury climbed to second in the Investec Premier Division after a 5-1 win over Leicester at Polo Farm on Saturday night and Holcs will visit at 5pm this Saturday looking to hold onto the fourth and final play-off spot but knowing defeat could wipe-out their three-point advantage going into the final game of the season.
Player-coach Wilson said: “We have two more games against two quality teams. Holcombe are our closest team geographically but it’s just another game and there will be nothing different in how we prepare than for any other team with a lot of good players, some of whom have international experience.
“We are focused on ourselves, as always, and trying to ensure we are in the best possible form for some big games coming up, in Europe as well as the play-offs.”
Clifton are third, behind Canterbury on goal-difference, after a 2-0 defeat at leaders Surbiton, who need just a point from their final two games to claim the title.
Wilson added: “I am pleased with where the girls are at the moment. We have goals coming from a number of people, not just reliant on one individual and we are scoring field goals as well as penalty corners. We are always looking to improve, though.”
