They give us unconditional love all year round, so why not return the favour with a little bit of gift-wrapped love for your four-legged friend this Christmas?
There are more toys on the market than your dog would want you to shake a stick at, and as a nation of pet lovers, we love to indulge our furry friends.
Charity Farm Countrystore in Swattenden Lane, Cranbrook, is one of the main suppliers of animal and pet feeds in the area and has a host of purrfect pressies to put on your festive shopping list.
David Clarke, one of the partners in the family-run business, said: “Lots of people buy treats for their pets – not just dogs and cats – small animals, birds, horses, really whatever animal they are looking after they want to give them a bit of a treat. We’ve got a wide selection to suit everybody’s taste.”
The store has been run by the family for more than 60 years and now also sells bedding, equipment, accessories and healthcare products for your furry loved ones and with their experience, the Clarkes have been able to pick out their top five for this festive season.
A cracking Christmassy treat, the Billy & Margot Cracker with venison marrow bone, is expected to be a best seller. Just £7.49, the healthy, hypo-allergenic marrow bone from 100% British venison comes with a hat and a joke.
There’s hours of fun to be had with second place Green & Wild’s Toy Rough n’ Tug which gives your pet pooch the chance to play while chewing on something natural. With a loop of rope at either end and four layers of jute rope, it is covered in soft suede.
For your feline friend, Felix has made number three - a Christmas Treats Gift Pack which is a snip at £3, but still gives you the chance to spoil your puss with 60g original mix and seaside mix goody bags; a 45g bag of salmon and trout crispies and a free cat toy for a Christmas morning guaranteed to go with a purr.
Designed to be hung in a stable, the Boredom Breaker for Horse and Ponies will mean your equestrian buddie will be well catered for, and is the fourth place pressie, costing £22.50.
Rounding off the top five, is a gift which will give you a pastime to wind down with while allowing your pooch to join in the Christmas jumper fun. The Redhound Christmas Tree Knitting Kit, at £32.99 gives you wool, needles, and an easy-to-follow pattern to knit your dog a cosy sweater.
With knowledgeable staff on hand to answer your questions, the store also stocks clothing from Seasalt, White Stuff, Joules, Toggi and Jack Murphy to name a few, and has departments ranging from equestrian to gifts, garden, wildlife, small holder and country pursuits.
