Fire crews were called to a recycling centre last night after 20 tonnes of waste caught fire.
Around 25 firefighters were sent to site in Thames Road, Crayford, just before 9pm after plumes of heavy dark smoke were seen.
The blaze prompted nine people to call 999 after hearing and explosion and seeing the flames.
Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were joined by others from Erith and Sidcup to tackle the fire, which was under control by 10.40pm.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
