A new 24-hour drive-thru – thought to be a KFC – has been earmarked for an Asda car park.
Proposals have recently been put forward relating to land which forms part of the supermarket in Crossways Boulevard, Greenhithe.
The application has been prepared on behalf of the EG Group, who own Asda, and proposes "the erection of a single storey building for mixed restaurant and hot food takeaway, incorporating a dedicated ‘drive-thru’ facility and the associated reconfiguration of the existing car park layout".
Under the designs a single-storey building would be erected in the existing car park, which would see a reduction of spaces from 380 to 346.
If approved, the "hot food" restaurant will employ 45 staff members and cater for sit down diners, take away and delivery meals.
The store would remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and would have a dedicated delivery collection point for online ordering apps Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.
According to a design and access statement, the restaurant will provide PETA award-winning vegan offerings, and the food sold on site will contain no artificial flavours, colours or trans fats.
The EG Group is owned by billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa who purchased Asda in June last year.
The planning documents did not reveal which chain would be opening in the proposed eatery, but the firm already operates hundreds of KFCs, Burger Kings, Subways and Greggs, as well as Starbucks and petrol stations.
There is already a Subway inside the Greenhithe Asda store and a Burger King drive-thru located nearby in Charles Street.
Details of the plans fuelled fresh speculation online a KFC franchise could be in the works but the fried chicken chain has not confirmed this.
Plans were first lodged on the Dartford council planning portal in December.
Comments on the application pointed out existing traffic and environmental problems including the ongoing issues of boy racers.
One resident in nearby Charles Street said: "The traffic noise in the evening is bad enough. You have boy racers using the road every night.
"With a drive thru and fast food restaurant it is going to make the area a death trap.
"Let alone the entrance is for Asda and the garage. With a drive thru it could be completely blocked which is what happens at Crayford McDonalds."
Whilst another in Dawes Close added: "A 24 hour restaurant here will only serve to exacerbate this problem, providing a meeting point and making it harder to eject these vehicles which could claim legitimate use of this facility to avoid being moved on."
If built the restaurant will join the area's existing fast food offering which includes a McDonalds in London Road which is also expanding with a drive-thru.
The EG Group said it was not in a position to respond at this stage. KFC was also approached for comment.
The deadline for determining the application is Thursday April 28. To view the full plans in full click here and search for DA/21/01884/FU
