Forty-six employees at Kent Fire and Rescue are currently self-isolating after crew members tested positive for coronavirus.

The fire service says it has "tried and tested plans" in force to deal with the current situation and has conducted deep cleans at three of its stations.

The number of firefighters to have caught the virus stands at three and they are now isolating at home.

As a result of the positive tests, 43 employees they have come into close contact with are also in quarantine.

Dartford, Swanley and Thames-side fire stations, as well as their vehicles, have received deep cleans as a precaution.

All three stations remain fully operational.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "There has been no risk to the public.

"All staff who test positive for Covid-19 will be asked to follow government guidance in relation to self-isolating, and will receive support from Kent Fire and Rescue (KFRS).

"KFRS has tried and tested plans to manage these types of scenarios, and throughout this situation has maintained a full service."

Meanwhile, Kent Police currently has no officers who have tested positive for the virus.
