Progressive dogs win races and Lordsbury Kerry fits that bill admirably at the moment.

After a rather uninspiring start to her racing career here in late July, when finishing twice well down the field, the Gemma Davidson trained greyhound has suddenly started to catch the eye with two wins from her last three starts.

On each occasion she has gone under the 24-second barrier for the 380 metre trip and has now won in both A6 and A5 grades.

You have to take serious note of her latest run when winning by seven-and-a-half lengths in a blistering time of 23.58 seconds.

That sort of time would win her an A4 race without too much effort. With the exception of her debut race, when she was sent off at odds of 9-2, the bookmakers have made her even money twice, 6-4 and 7-4. Interestingly short prices for a newcomer.

Must just give a mention to Out You Go who will be five years of age next month. She is probably now nearing the end of a career which has seen her run in 142 competitive races at the track. She has notched up twenty two wins along the way for her owners and I know that they were pleased to see their dog winning both of her last two starts. What about that starting price last time of 8-1?

That should send a clear sign to all and sundry that she is not ready just yet to head for the couch.

Come to think of it the same could be said of her owners who, whilst in their later years, still love their dogs and racing.

I do not often tip hurdlers but I will make an exception with Soviet Nailer who won impressively last Saturday night in a fast time of 23.75 over 380m.

Owned by trainer Lee Gifkins the dog has now been placed with Crayford trainer Barry O’Sullivan and having spoken to Lee before racing I know that he was optimistic about his dog’s chances on the night.

Both he and Barry will have been pleased with the way the dog led from trap to line and the result never looked in any doubt.

The dog has raced at no fewer than 10 different tracks since starting his career in March last year. He therefore has vast experience on his side and this may well see him becoming a force to be reckoned with over the sticks here.
