A teenage boy from Greenhithe has been arrested for drink driving, one of 32 in a week as police forces support a national campaign.

The 15-year-old was arrested on Sunday at 4.10am and later charged with vehicle theft, drink-driving, driving with no insurance and no licence.

He has been bailed to appear at Medway Youth Court on Tuesday, January 6.

The arrest was one of 32 in Kent during the first week of December as forces across the country highlight the dangers of drink-driving.

Police revealed 29 men and three women have been arrested. The oldest is a 62-year-old man from Hampshire, arrested on the M25 near junction four.

Of those, 20 have been charged and handed court dates.

They include a 48-year-old woman from Timberbank in Vigo, arrested on Friday in Wrotham Road. Johanna Amura will appear before Dartford magistrates on Monday, December 22.

Chief Inspector Matthew Kendall said: "One drink isn’t worth the risk so the advice is simple - if you are driving, do not drink. If you are drinking, do not drive.

"To support this message, our officers have been routinely stopping anyone suspected of driving under the influence.

"In the first seven days of December we made 32 arrests. Our busiest night this week was Saturday 6 December, with 10 arrests.

"In both 2012 and 2013 the busiest night of the month for drink-drive arrests was the second Friday, so Kent Police will be continuing to make arrests where necessary throughout December.

"The majority of road users are responsible but Kent Police will not tolerate anyone who puts the lives of others at risk."

Police added they continue to highlight arrests on social media throughout December using the hashtag #DontDrinkAndDrive.

Figures show almost 100 underage drivers - some as young as 15 - were convicted of drink-driving in Kent in the five year period from 2008 to 2013.
