A Dartford contractor lit up Westminster bridge to celebrate the birth of the royal baby.

FM Conway, based on Rochester Way, lit up Westminster’s bridges blue to mark the birth of Prince George, on July 22.

The company originally installed the lighting as part of the preparations for the Olympic Games.

Head of lighting Stuart Wilson said: “We worked with Westminster City Council before the Olympics to install comprehensive lighting systems to its bridges as part of Project Dazzle – which provided dramatic lighting for the bridges throughout the Games.

"At the time we built in provision for the lights to be changed, and set up a wi-fi system that would allow us to display different colours on different occasions.

“So when Westminster told us that they wanted to mark the birth of the royal baby with a lighting display, we dispatched men to site so that we could change the lighting to blue for a boy or pink for a girl.

"We got our teams down to Waterloo Bridge and the Golden Jubilee footbridge and the upshot was that within 15 minutes of the official announcement, we were able to change the displays and provide Westminster with a striking, and virtually immediate, tribute.”
