A passenger focus group has called for the Oyster card scheme to be extended to Dartford.

London TravelWatch made its bid for the Kent town to be included at a meeting with London Mayor Boris Johnson and the capital’s train companies.

The group also wants stations such as Epsom, Slough and Windsor to be included on the Pay as You Go card network, where passengers touch in and out of a special card readers.

If it goes ahead it means passengers from Dartford will be able to transfer to London’s tubes and buses without using separate tickets.

Jon Hay-Campbell, spokesman for Southeastern, said: "At the moment our focus is on Dartford and once we have looked at that station, we would look at other areas, if possible.

"There are still a lot of things that need to be sorted out, including the exact fare structure and finding a suitable place at the station to install the card readers, but there is a great demand for it."

Southeastern is in talks with Transport for London and the Department for Transport about the Oyster scheme.
