Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell urged his squad not to
panic despite a fourth successive League 1 defeat that saw them go
down to Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

Less than 13,000 fans saw them lose
3-1 at home to after an inept display at The Valley.

Although Bradley Wright-Phillips gave
them an early lead, three poor goals – including a goalkeeping
blunder from Rob Elliot – gifted the points to the visitors.

"It’s vital we keep calm and do what
it takes to arrest that slide," said Powell (pictured), who had won
his first four games in charge.

"I was always realistic to know that
you are going to lose at some stage. It’s a tough time and the
longer it goes on it will get to you, whether you are a fan or
player.

"We need to be brave and stick
together and be the team that I know we can be.

"That’s going to take a bit of talking
and hard work on the training ground."

Charlton, who are now five points
adrift of the play-off places, host Tranmere on Saturday before
making the trip to MK Dons on Tuesday.

Powell rubbished reports linking him
with out-of-favour West Ham striker Benni McCarthy but confirmed
that he is keen to bring in two players on loan before the weekend
to boost his injury-hit squad.
