Brands Hatch caterer Mandy Scott who has served Grand Prix and Hollywood superstars, Olympic medallists and a celebrity chef has retired

A caterer who has served motorsport’s biggest stars their traditional Brands Hatch sausage, chips and beans is retiring after almost four decades.

Mandy Scott joined the team in 1986 at the Kent circuit in West Kingsdown during its final days as a grand prix venue.

In her time she has seen an impressive list of famous faces with regular customers including F1 drivers Mark Webber, David Coulthard and Eddie Irvine, alongside thousands of supporters from Ireland who have travelled annually to Brands Hatch for the Formula Ford Festival.

She has also catered for other notable visitors at the circuit’s Kentagon restaurant, including Grand Prix superstars Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet.

She has even met Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and she was the first to welcome former colleague Lizzy Yarnold back to the venue as Winter Olympic skeleton gold medallist.

During her time in the role, Mandy, who is in her early 70s, provided catering for specialist launches, corporate events, race day hospitality, and one-off special occasions.

Jonathan Palmer, who is chief executive of MSV which owns the track, said: “With the chequered flag having finally fallen on Mandy’s extraordinary work at Brands Hatch with her retirement we really are at the end of an era.

“Mandy has been an incredible and much-loved part of the Brands Hatch team for decades, and has worked well beyond the age when most people retire.”

He went on to credit Mandy for being “wonderfully committed” to making sure that customers enjoyed eating at Brands Hatch.

Jonathan added that her role had almost played as much a part of the venue as John Webb, the PR consultant who oversaw Brands Hatch as the home of the British and European Grand Prix throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s.

He said: “The word tirelessly is much abused these days, but there is no doubt Mandy has worked tirelessly and quite how she has kept all the catering balls in the air, especially at a heaving BSB event, none of us quite know.

“Mandy Scott has been nearly as much part of Brands Hatch as John Webb over the decades and leaves big shoes to fill.

“I very much hope she will finally relax in her retirement and thank her so much for all her phenomenal hard work.”
