Students have been raising funds in memory of a staff member and a fellow learner.

North Kent College has been showing its charitable side by collecting almost £3,000 through various events for hospice charity ellenor in the past six months.

It was all in memory of Colin Hutson and Jordan Dawes, who both died this year.

Mr Hutson was head motor vehicle workshop technician for seven years, but lost his fight to cancer in March.

Football Academy student Jordan, 18, passed away in February after suffering with liver cancer. They were supported for a period of time by the ellenor hospice towards the end of their lives.

Hospice ellenor provides round-the-clock care for patients with terminal illnesses and their families through what can be a very difficult time, relying on donations to carry on the vital work it does in the community.

A charity football tournament raising nearly £1,700 and a car and bike show raising more than £1,120 was held at the college campuses to raise a large amount of funds.

Presentations were made to representatives of the organisation.

The cash is being donated to ellenor

Area fundraiser for ellenor, Leah Poppy, was thrilled with the donations, saying: “Thank you to everyone for raising such an incredible amount for ellenor.

“It’s thanks to the support from others that helps us to continue to offer the vital care to our patients and their families.”

Both events are hoped to be repeated next year and beyond, turning the charity fundraisers into annual occasions for the college.
