Commuters coming into London had their journeys disrupted this morning following a death on the line.

Trains had been stopped between Charlton and Slade Green due to the tragedy in Plumstead that emergency services were dealing with.

The line had reopened by 10.30am and services returned to normal an hour later.

A Southeastern spokesman said this morning that the holdups were "due to a fatality at Plumstead on the Woolwich line."

British Transport Police dealt with the tragedy.

That line also has Kent stations such as Dartford, Greenhithe, Gravesend, Strood, Aylesford and Maidstone West.

A notice on the Southeastern website explained earlier this morning: “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Charlton and Slade Green all lines are blocked.

"Train services running through these stations will be delayed or revised.”

The company said trains that would normally run through that area would be diverted via alternative routes while emergency services dealt with the ongoing situation in Plumstead.

Some services were planned to be diverted to alternative London terminals or have amended calling patterns.
