Crayford Greyhound Track raised £1,500 for charity with a Wear it Pink evening

Crayford Greyhound Track raised £1,500 on Friday after staging a Wear it Pink evening.

The event was part of a nationwide scheme by track owners Ladbrokes to raise £100,000 for the Breast Cancer charity.

Funds were raised by staff donating £2 to dress up and there were pink roses and pink sweets for sale.

The greyhounds in each race were individually sponsored with a bottle of Pink Bubbly going to each winner. Local businessman Brendan Riney donated £250 prize money for the JB Riney & Co Supporting Wear it Pink Stakes.

Marketing manager Diana Illingworth said: "There was a tremendous effort by everyone and the track achieved its goal of raising £1,500 on the night. The staff really did throw themselves into the theme."

Heavily-backed greyhound Pink With Pride unfortunately only managed second place but still claimed a podium place to mark the occasion.

Mike Fawsitt, owner of In The Pink Stakes’ winner Ardbeg Kate donated his £175 prize winnings to the charity.
