A DONKEY may be about to steal the spotlight at a Dartford theatre performance.

Josephina the donkey, from The Donkey Breed Society, will be appearing in a performance of Carmen at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford, on Tuesday, October 2.

It is hoped the appearance of the donkey, who is from Dartford, will help raise awareness of animal welfare.

The producer, Ellen Kent, decided on the four-legged addition to the cast after her mother helped to set up the Spanish equivalent of the RSPCA based at her mother’s farm in Andalucía, Spain.

The show will also be raising money for The Donkey Breed Society following the performance.

Carmen is the story of the bewitching gypsy girl.

The opera will be sung in French with English subtitles.

The Box office telephone number, to book tickets, is 01322 220 000.
