FORMER users of a disabled centre plan to set up their own facilities because they say those now on offer are inadequate.
Members of North Kent Disabled Foundation (NKDF) say what has replaced the Queen Elizabeth Foundation (QEF) Resource Centre since it closed in October is simply not up to scratch.
Dozens of them held protests at the closure of the Brent Way facility, which was open five days per week and offered numerous activities and a specialist gym.
Kent County Council (KCC) has replaced the service with activities at Temple Hill Community Centre, in Dartford, Swanley Youth and Community Centre, and the Riverside Centre, in Gravesend.
But users say they are still without adequate toilet facilities in some centres, while the provision and quality of activities in others varies dramatically.
The group says the situation is so bad that it is considering setting up its own facility, equipped with most of what the QEF centre offered.
The group is due to meet with KCC at Temple Hill Community Centre tonight in an attempt to iron out some of the problems.
