Six drop-in sessions will be held this month for residents to learn more about Sevenoaks’ draft local plan.

The document is a blueprint for the development of 14,000 homes in the district up to 2035.

Today residents are invited to Eynsford Village Hall, High Street, from 5pm to 8pm or Halstead Pavilion, Station Road, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

There will also be events on Tuesday (August 14) at Waitrose, Mont St Aignan Way, Edenbridge; Swanley Link, in London Road, on Wednesday, August 29; and at Sevenoaks council’s offices in Argyle Road on Wednesday, September 5. All those will run from 2pm to 8pm.

There will be a second session at Halstead Pavilion on Thursday (August 16) from 10am to 2pm.

Cllr Robert Piper, cabinet member for planning, said: “The new Local Plan is really important - it gives us a once in a generation opportunity to improve retail and local infrastructure and provide new schools, medical facilities and much needed new homes for our children and grandchildren in the years to come.

“We’re keen to hear what everyone thinks – whether they support the proposals for new homes or if they have comments on the possible sites for new developments.

“I would urge residents to read the Plan and make their views known before the consultation closes on September 10.”

The council will publish a final version of the plan, which pledges to protect 99% of the green belt, later this year.

It will then be submitted to the government and considered by the planning inspector in 2019, when there will be another opportunity for residents to raise further comments.

It could be adopted later in the year.
