An elderly couple were treated by medics after a chip pan went up in flames in their kitchen.

The man and woman, both in their 70s, were treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out at their Dartford home around 6.50pm.

The fire service arrived at their address in Fernheath Way and treated them with oxygen before an ambulance was called as a precaution.

Both of the residents managed to put out the fire, which had started because the pan was left on a hob and self-ignited.

The blaze caused damage to the kitchen's cooker and cupboards.
