DARTFORD Football Club hit the ground running by scoring the first ever goal at the brand new Princes Park stadium on Saturday.

The Darts scored in the first 15 minutes of the match against Horsham YMCA before going on to win the game 4-2.

It was the club's first proper home game for 14 years, watched by a capacity crowd of 4,100.

Tickets for the game at the £6.5million stadium had sold out in three weeks, fans celebrating being able to attend their team's return to the town.

Morris Markin, 73, a supported for 30 years, said: "I've always had to go to neighbouring clubs just for home games. It's fantastic that we have our own stadium after all this time."

Darts had to leave its Watling Street stadium in 1992 after 70 years due to financial difficulties.

In the meantime, the club have had to share grounds with teams at Erith & Belvedere, Dagenham & Redbridge and Thurrock.
