Arrest after van broken into in Woodview Road, Swanley

A suspected thief is in custody after officers were quick on the scene to a report of a vehicle being tampered with.

Police were called to Woodview Road, Swanley, at 1.30am today where patrols found a van window had been smashed. The victim said some personal belongings were missing.

Officers searched the area and a 51-year-old man from Swanley was arrested.

Tools, including two screwdrivers and one of the victim’s cards reported stolen from the van, were seized.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, going equipped, possession of an offensive weapon, affray and assault on an emergency worker after an officer was allegedly assaulted during the arrest.

A police spokesman said inquiries remain ongoing.
