A firefighter ran 13.5 miles in full fire gear weighing nearly 30kg.

Dave Lane, from Red Watch at Dartford fire station took on the challenge for Great Ormond Street Hospital and managed to raise £1,338.

The uniform weighed 9kg, and his breathing apparatus set strapped to his back weighed about 16.5kg.

Dave Lane completed the run in full fire gear.

After the run along the length of the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, he said: “It was a brilliant day. Feeling it a bit today but well worth it, thank you so much to everyone that has donated. We have raised a fantastic amount of money for a great charity.

“This is a charity close to my heart and although I could never get close to repaying them for the amazing care and support they have provided for my friends, it’s great to give a little bit back.”

He also thanked Kent Fire and Rescue Service for supporting the event, and Ballyclare for suppling the fire gear.

Dave is a firefighter on Red Watch at Dartford fire station.
