Plans to turn old Horton Kirby Fire Station into flats

Plans have been submitted to demolish an old fire station and turn it into flats.

The building in Horton Kirby has remained empty since it was closed in 2013.

New proposals would see developers from JR Estates Ltd build five one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments on the site.

Sevenoaks council granted planning permission to turn the station into a nursery in October 2017, but it never happened.

Instead, a three-storey L-shaped structure could be built on the site in south Darenth, which sits at the junction of Horton Road and New Road.

Cllr Brian Carroll (Con), who represents Farningham, Horton Kirby and South Darenth, said he is not opposed to new housing on the site.

He said: "I'm not opposed to the demolition of the fire station now that it's no longer used, nor am I opposed to putting flats on the site.

"We need new housing in Horton Kirby and South Darenth, and we need smaller properties for the children of local families, and people who want to downsize.

"However, I am opposed to the plan as it's been presented by the developer, because they are trying to squeeze too much property onto the site, and there is no provision for additional parking."
