National pride is set to grip Dartford for two jam-packed days of events to celebrate St George’s Day.

Cohesion Plus, Kent Equality Cohesion Council and Dartford council are joining forces to provide entertainment both today (Friday) and Saturday, with hundreds of people expected to take part.

Festivities will begin at One Bell Corner in the High Street from 12.45pm today, featuring brass bands, Morris dancers, drummers, a town crier, a Saint George in full armour and a troupe of medieval court jesters.

Mayor of Dartford Cllr Ian Armitt and Dartford council leader Jeremy Kite will then lead some 500 children from nine local schools in a parade through the town centre.

It starts at the Civic Centre in Home Gardens at 1.35pm and will make its way to Central Park, where the fun will come to an end around the Bandstand at 2.30pm.

The following day, St George will meet and greet locals in the town centre from 11am, where he will be joined by another brass band providing live music.

The celebrations are being organised by the chairman of the Kent Equality Cohesion Council, Dev Sharma MBE, who is looking forward to seeing the people of Dartford celebrate the national day.

He said: “We are very passionate about Saint George’s Day as we believe it is an excellent way for communities to come together and share our common values."
