Commuters faced travel chaos as further snow brought roads and train services in and out of London to a near standstill.

Train passengers heading for Dartford and Gravesend faced lengthy delays last night as Southeastern services struggled to cope.

Several trains were cancelled, while some commuters were turned away from south London stations due to overcrowding.

On the roads, icy conditions and several break-downs brought congestion to the London-bound A2. A crash involving an HGV and car on the junction of the A2 and M25 at about 6.15pm meant diversions for motorists.

This morning, Kent Police says the county's roads are operating as normal, but Southeastern is operating a Saturday timetable on mainline, metro and high speed routes.

A spokesman for the company said fewer services would be operating than normal, but exact numbers could not be confirmed.

In order to combat overcrowding, the trains that do run will have more carriages. There will also be additional high-speed services and a shuttle service between London Bridge and Cannon Street at peak times.

After several days of delayed services, Southeastern hopes the move will make the trains that do run more reliable.
