Gas engineers are working to repair a gas leak outside a leisure centre in Dartford.

The gas main in Darenth Road, outside the David Lloyd leisure centre, sprung a leak after it was damaged and the road was closed whilst engineers carried out a temporary repair.

Hannah Brett, spokesman for gas distribution company, SGN, said: “We’re working to repair a gas leak in Darenth Road close to its junction with Princes Road.

"We were called to Darenth Road after our gas main was damaged by a third party.

“Darenth Road was closed for a short time this afternoon while we carried out a temporary repair and the road reopened just before 5pm.

“We need to carry out a permanent repair this evening.

"We will temporarily close Darenth Road after rush hour this evening.

"All being well, we’ll be able to finish our repair and reopen the road by tomorrow morning.”

The leisure centre remains open, but customers are being advised they can only get there on foot.
