Teenage golfer’s hole in one

Thirteen-year-old Mason Essam has shown older golfers how it is done after hitting his first hole-in-one.
There were scenes of jubilation at Birchwood Park Golf Centre when the teenager made his shot of a lifetime.
Playing in a friendly game on the public pay-and-play centre’s challenging nine-hole Orchard Course, the 12-handicapper reacted to his ace on the 83-yard third hole by throwing his club into the air.
Melanie Drake, manager of the golf centre in Birchwood Road, Dartford, said: “Traditionally when you score a hole-in-one, you are expected to buy everyone in the clubhouse a drink.
"However, we let Mason off on this occasion.
“Some people play golf their entire lives without achieving a hole in one, Mason has only been playing for two years – so there’s plenty of time for a few more.”
Birchwood Park has a thriving junior section with regular coaching from the centre’s PGA professionals and competitions on both the short course and the 18-hole main course.
