A hospital has slammed one if its visitors who took to social media to boast a family member had vandalised their property.

Darent Valley Hospital, in Dartford, took to Facebook to tell people how upset staff were that someone would "illegally deface NHS property" by scrawling their initials on the wall.

It comes after a woman posted a status, with a picture of the graffiti, that said: "When your cousin comes to see you and your daughter at the hospital and realises [sic] his vandal."

The NHS Trust posted a picture of the woman's post, hiding her name, alongside a statement.

It said: "We were very upset to see that one of our visitors chose to illegally deface NHS property and that it was seen to be amusing, so amusing it was posted on social media.

"We try and keep the hospital well maintained for our patients and repairing this graffiti will now divert money from clinical services for patients.

"We do hope that you received good care in the hospital and that you will in future encourage your visitors not to deface public property.

Other users of the hospital were quick to condemn the vandals actions.

Claire Nottage commented: "I’m incensed by this type of person. Having worked at DVH for a number of years I truly valued the cleanliness of both patient and staff-only areas.

"I do hope you’ve invoiced the family for the repair. You have evidence it was them after all."

Lucy Alice added: "How embarrassing I’d be fuming if someone came to see me at the hospital and did that.

"Disrespectful to not only the hospital but the family member you’re visiting."
