The mother of a boy who died 17 years ago after a quad bike accident is writing a series of books about her life and how she coped with grief.

Swanscombe mum Lisa Skone lost her son Danny, 18, in February 2004 when the quad he was riding at a quarry opposite Bluewater fell on top of him and broke his neck.

Over the past 10 years, the 51-year-old author has been writing a book trilogy called Legacy of Love.

Lisa said: "Life has been tough since Danny's death and to help me get through that tragedy, I have written a book.

"The first of a trilogy is available now and it’s based on true events that have happened in my life.

"The third book will cover the tragic loss of my son. Writing these books has really helped me deal with my grief.

"I wasn't good at dealing with my emotions but getting my experiences down on paper has been good. It's obviously been hard in places but the writing has really benefited me."

Danny was a keen motorcyclist, passionate about riding them and their mechanics.

He had the quad bike accident on February 1 when he was 17. He spent his 18th birthday, on February 3, in a coma and on February 9 his life support machine was turned off.

Lisa said: "Danny's passion was motorbikes. He was good with bikes, it's what he loved doing.

"That day he went out, I didn't know he was going to the quarry. There happened to be someone there with a quad bike and he decided to ride it.

"He was driving and his friend was on the back. There was a mound of gravel about six foot high and he wanted to drive over it.

"He couldn't get over it so he decided to reverse up it but the quad bike flipped over and landed on top of him, breaking his neck.

"Just thinking about it now, I still can't believe it happened; it's still so fresh in my mind.

"Seventeen years on and I still feel that void. After his death I became and alcoholic. Thankfully I'm past that stage in my life now and I stopped drinking in 2009.

"I've written these books to show others that I survived, even after the death of my child. I want to help other people in the same position.

"It's hard when you lose anybody and I want people to be able to relate to my story so they can see that I'm whole again and I've overcome the problems I faced."

Written under her pen name, Lisa Labon, the first book, In the Blink of an Eye, is available to buy now and book two is awaiting to be published.

She said: "I'm writing book three now. It's going to be difficult but Danny's death was a huge part of my life and I hope my story can be shared in support of others."
