A jackknifed lorry smashed through a safety barrier and was left dangling off a motorway bridge above the A2.
The main carriageway was closed in both directions at junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange to repair the serious damage which has caused long delays around the M25.
KMTV reports live from the scene of the crash
The HGV was left perched precariously above the A2 but has since been recovered.
It comes after part of the lorry's trailer ploughed through a safety barrier causing significant damage to it and a lamp column.
British Transport Police say they were first to arrive at the scene, followed by Kent Police and Highways England to assist around 1.20pm.
No serious injuries have been reported.
A complex recovery and repair operation was required to safely recover the lorry.
But the road will remain closed while essential maintenance works are carried out to replace the nearside barrier.
Last night, spokesman James Walker, said: "Road closures are in place following a collision between a lorry and a roadside barrier on the A282.
"The incident was reported to Kent Police at 1.20pm and resulted in part of the lorry’s trailer breaching a safety barrier.
"No serious injuries have been reported, however the A2 is closed in both directions, at the junction for the Darenth Interchange, to ensure public safety. The anticlockwise M25 is also closed at junction 2.
"Motorists are advised to expect delays and, where possible, consider using an alternative route."
