Dramatic aerial photos show the aftermath of a devastating blaze which ripped through four terraced homes.

Eight fire engines were sent to tackle the house fire in Crayford Way, Crayford, near Dartford.

More than 60 firefighters arrived at around 5.30pm yesterday and a water tower was used to help douse the flames.

Half of the ground floors of four terraced houses were damaged by the fire and the first floors and the roofs of the properties were destroyed.

A number of people had left the buildings before the London Fire Brigade arrived.

Crews cooled and removed two gas cylinders as a precaution, as some can explode when exposed to heat.

Station Commander David Reed, who was at the scene, said: "The roof spanning across four terraced houses was completely alight.

"One of the brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used as a water tower at the scene to get water on the building externally.

"The fire was producing a lot of smoke in the local area, so we advised residents to keep their windows and doors closed.

"There are currently no reports of any injuries."

Crayford Way was closed between Thames Road and Mill Place while crews worked to make the scene safe and people were urged to avoid the area due to heavy congestion.

The brigade took 10 calls related to the blaze which was brought under control shortly before 8pm.

Fire crews from surrounding fire stations also attended the scene to assist.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
