The Lord of the Rings came to mind when a team of intrepid explorers measuring no more than a few feet in height set off on an epic walk through some scenic countryside.

Darenth stepped in for the Shire as a group of toddlers from Dimples Day Nursery embarked on a trek to the nearby country park, joined by parents and staff to raise money for a colleague’s daughter who is suffering with West Syndrome.

Seren Wederell, who is just seven months old, suffers seizures, spasms, and epilepsy.

To help her development, the nursery is raising money so that parents Mike and Cat can have a sensory and physiotherapy room built at their home, and the country park walk gets their efforts under way.

It took around 30 minutes for the 160-strong group to reach their destination, helping to nudge the nursery’s fund raising total closer to £1,000, with other events in the pipeline.

The Wederell family have set up a Facebook page to provide updates on Seren’s development. You can follow her progress here.
