All traffic was held for around an hour while emergency crews dealt with the wreckage with tailbacks stretching back to J2 for the Darenth Interchange and onto the A2.

The entry slip road at Junction 1A was briefly shut but reopened shortly afterward.

Highways England reported traffic won't return to normal until after 10pm.
