Highways England is advising motorists making essential journeys of a number of overnight closures on parts of the M20 and A2 for maintenance work during the next week.

The M20 London bound section between junction 9, for Ashford, and junction 8, for Maidstone, will be closed overnight on Saturday, February, 13 from 9pm until 6am on Sunday, February, 14, while essential maintenance is carried out.

All vehicles heading towards London will need to follow the fully-signed diversion route, via the A20.

Motorists and motorcyclists should exit at junction 9 onto the A20 and continue westbound on the A20 to junction 8 where they will be able to re-join the M20.

A low bridge at Harrietsham which has a height restriction of 15ft 6” (4.7m) means that over height vehicles must turn around at junction 9 and head back on the M20 to junction 13 where they should join the A20 towards Dover. They can then join the London bound A2.

Traffic will still be able to use the coastbound M20 and coast bound freight should continue to follow signs directing them to the Brock freight holding area.

As work continues on the A2 Bean and Ebbsfleet junction upgrade improvements, the A2 will be closed coast bound and London bound Darenth to Ebbsfleet overnight for one night between 8pm tonight to 6am tomorrow morning. All diversions will be clearly signed.

The A2 will also be closed overnight London bound on the Jubilee Way, Dover for two nights from 10pm until 6am each night on Monday, February, 15, and Tuesday, February, 16, for resurfacing.

This work is weather dependent and contingency measures are in place, if needed, overnight on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February, 18.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place suitable for all types of vehicles. Traffic wishing to use the westbound carriage will be diverted off the A20 to join Alkham Valley Road, to join the A260 Canterbury Road, before joining the A259 Churchill Avenue to join the M20 at junction 13.

There will also be overnight slip road closures on the M20 coast bound at junction 10a (Ashford) next week for five nights to complete work on the new traffic lights at the junction.

Drivers wishing to exit the coastbound M20 at junction 10a during the closures should continue to junction 11, where they should exit and return to junction 10a on the London bound M20.

Motorists using this part of the M20 are urged to plan ahead and leave extra time for their journeys.

Freight drivers for Eurotunnel only should follow signs directing them through the Brock contraflow. HGVs heading to the Port of Dover are reminded they should follow the signs to Manston.
