Hollywood legend Sir Michael Caine says he would jump at the chance to star in a film about the multimillion pound Hatton Garden jewellery raid.

A drama about the heist - which was masterminded by 76-year-old Brian Reader from Dartford - is reportedly in the works.

It is thought Sir Michael, 82, would most likely portray Reader, who faces sentence in March after pleading guilty to involvement in the daring burglary.

The veteran actor said: "The four guys in Hatton Garden, they are very, very tough. I've heard my name and Ray Winstone's name mentioned. I would do it in an instant.

"I'll be 83 in March so there's (not many opportunities) for me to play the lead in a movie. It's unbelievable."

He added: "If they want me to do the Hatton robbery, I'll do it - but it'll cost you."

The burglary - described as the largest in legal history - took place over the Easter weekend last year.

Reader, referred to as "the guv'nor" by his accomplices, travelled to the scene of his audacious crime by bus.

He now faces a maximum 10-year spell behind bars, although he is entitled to a reduction on account of his guilty plea.

He is also likely to be stripped of his assets, including his luxurious home in Dartford Road.
