Fighting elections can be a tough business, as one candidate just discovered.

Debbie Graham was delivering leaflets in the Newtown Ward in Dartford where she is the Labour candidate in May's local elections, when she tripped and fell.

She is now nursing a broken arm.

Mrs Graham, a senior midwife, said: "We had nearly finished for the day when I lost my footing.

"I put my right arm out to break the fall, and instead I broke my arm!”

She was treated at Darent Valley Hospital, where she said: "I would like to pay tribute to the hospital staff for their kindness and professionalism.

"I’m now trying to work out how to deliver leaflets with one hand!”
