Traffic at A2/M25 Darenth Interchange causing nine mile queues

Massive queues on the A2 have now cleared following two incidents on both sides at the Darenth Interchange.

The road was blocked on the westbound carriageway where the roads join at junction 2 of the M25 after a lorry broke down just after 6am.

The truck has since been recovered and the road reopened at around 8.50am.

Huge tailbacks are building after the crash which has closed the exit slip road to the M25

At one point, traffic was tailing back as far as junction 1 for the M2 at Cobham - nine miles away.

The slip road on to the anti-clockwise M25 had to be closed to allow the recovery of the vehicle to take place.

The road has since reopened, and delays have cleared.

It happened at the same time as the exit slip road on the coastbound side at the same junction was closed following a crash shortly before 7am.

A van and three cars collided in the outside lane, scattering debris across the carriageway.

Minor injuries were reported and the road reopened at around 7.40am.

Richard Rodgers, who is from Chatham, was travelling along the road when the accident happened.

He said: "I stopped to give assistance to badly shaken driver of the black car."

Queues were reported as far back as Bexleyheath, but congestion has now eased.
