The first image showing how a proposed housing development at a former quarry could look has been released.

Detailed plans to transform the Croxton and Garry site in Swanscombe have been submitted to planners by developers Bellway.

The 233 new homes and apartments would be developed as the second phase of the housebuilders' Ebbsfleet Cross development.

The first phase, off Craylands Lane, comprising of 100 houses and apartments has almost sold out.

The second part of the overall development off London Road has permission for 221 homes and the latest plans propose to add an extra 12.

Bellway says 163 homes would be available for the open market as a mix of one to three-bedroom apartments and two to four-bedroom houses.

The remaining 70 properties would be sold as affordable housing schemes – 37 for shared ownership and 33 for affordable rent.

The development will be accessed by Tiltman Avenue and is built by Bellway Thames Gateway.

The company says the near 13-acre site has been allocated by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation for residential development with 20% of the overall site being allocated as public open space.

Managing director Tom Sheriff said: “This site has been identified for housing and provides a perfect opportunity to deliver high-quality homes which will continue to rejuvenate an area that had been disused for some time.

“Due to the level of success we have seen from the first phase of development at Ebbsfleet Cross, it’s clear there’s a growing demand for new housing in the area, particularly from those who want to get on the housing ladder.

“Our proposals are sensitive to the needs of local people as well as reflecting the industrial heritage of the site, with features such as viewing stones, a stone wall and a stone play tunnel included within the landscape design.

“More than a fifth of the site will be public open space, with the houses benefitting from private gardens and the apartments having access to communal gardens."

Mr Sheriff added if planning permission is granted, construction could start later this year and the development launching in the summer.
