Plans to demolish former nightclub and church in final phase of Dartford town centre plan

Developers are hoping to get permission to flatten a former nightclub and church in the final phase of a town centre housing scheme.

The demolition of buildings at 46-58 Lowfield Street, Dartford, and construction of 71 flats would represent the last element in the landmark Copperhouse Green development of 644 new homes.

But while the fourth phase of the Bellway Homes' plan is the smallest, it's also proved the most controversial - with Dartford council forced to authorise powers to seize the former DA1 nightclub building, which was last used by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The church and its members were ejected in 2019 after the council refused planning permission to use the nightclub as a place of worship, stating the application was "incompatible" with the town's regeneration aims.

The refusal has subsequently been appealed and is awaiting a decision, but developers are aiming to press ahead with plans after submitting a formal application.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has been approached for further comment.
