Traffic on the QE II Bridge was held for half an hour after concerns for a woman's welfare this morning.
Motorists on the M25 clockwise at the Dartford Crossing were facing long delays and queues of up to four miles after police stopped traffic at 9.40am.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called shortly before 9.25am today with concerns for the safety of a woman on the Dartford Crossing bridge.
"Our officers spoke to the woman and she was brought to safety. She was left in the care of health professionals. "
All lanes reopened at 10.10am but drivers were still queuing back to and beyond Junction 30 for Lakeside.
Traffic conditions were said to have eased by 11.15am.
