The final part of the River Thames last standing power station will be brought down later this month.

The 215m chimney at Littlebrook in Dartford will be demolished on Sunday, December 15 at 8am.

It will coincide with a short rolling road block on the Dartford Crossing to avoid motorists driving across the bridge becoming distracted.

It will be the sixth explosion, carried out by Brown and Mason, at the site since the power station was closed in 2015 and the decision was made to bring it down.

Spokesman Calum Cameron said: "Although the explosion and collapse may be heard off site, any noise will be over very quickly. Any dust generated will be controlled on site and road sweepers will be available although it’s anticipated that they will not be required.

To protect everyone on site and in the local area an exclusion zone will be in place before, during and immediately after the explosion. The exclusion zone will prohibit public access to the area, but will not impact the local road network.

Works, which mainly consist of the clear up, are set to be completed next year.

One man who won't be happy with the news is Tony Mack, from Longfield, who earlier this year threatened to chain himself to chimney.
