Fire crews were called to Pinden Quarry, near Dartford, yesterday afternoon and remained at the scene throughout the night.

The fire broke out at the quarry yesterday afternoon

They used a number of tactics to fight the blaze, working in punishing conditions to calm the flames and get the fire under control.

Having extinguished the blaze - which destroyed 200 tonnes of recycling - a crew of firefighters remained overnight to ensure the fire did not reignite.

Water jets, compressed air foam system, a height vehicle with wetting agent, and fire breaks were among the tactics and equipment used to calm the flames and smoke.
