Two fire engines were sent to the property in Westwood Road and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. It was all over an hour later.

One person was given precautionary checks for suspected smoke inhalation, before being passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The cause is believed to be accidental.
