A Scout group whose home desperately needs repairing is hoping to get permission to knock it down and rebuild.
The 5th Dartford Scout Group has applied to demolish the existing Scout hall at West Hill, Dartford, and replace it with a two-storey hall with a terrace on the first floor.
The organisation raised £350,000 through around 50 grants, donations and fundraisers, which included Scout members and brothers Malcolm and Alex Medcalf, 39 and 34, from Stanham Road, Dartford, running seven marathons across seven countries in seven days in October 2011.
The group wants to raise a further £70,000 to build a hall. Dartford council will decide on the plan by February 8.
Neil Young, chairman of the Scout group which has 180 members, said: “We are very much looking forward to obtaining planning permission and getting on with the project but we still need to raise funds to complete the project.
“The hall was rebuilt by volunteers and parents in the 1960s. It is desperately in need of repair.
“If we don’t replace it, it will fall down. We have to make it safe.
“The group needs a new hall to be able to survive into the future.
“No questions at all, it would survive elsewhere.”
He added: “It is going to be a perfect space to support the group for the next 50 years.
“Dartford Borough Council is very supportive of us – they do a terrific job of supporting us.
“We have also had support from Dartford Freemasons, Barnard Family Trust, Sainsbury’s in Crayford, the Co-op in Chastilian Road, Dartford, BT and Lloyds Bank.”
The Development Control Board meets at Dartford Civic Centre, Home Gardens, on Thursday, February 8 at 7pm.
