Just two months ago, teenager Frankie Jordan had little idea that his life was about to be turned upside down.
School kept him busy and outside that, his dad, Lee, was his best friend and they would spend much of their spare time together, loving life.
But overnight, that all changed.
At the age of just 41, Lee was taken ill unexpectedly.
He was diagnosed with meningitis and, although he had open brain surgery, doctors were unable to save him.
He donated his organs which helped six other people.
Frankie and his mother are still grieving but the youngster has bravely decided to run 5km in memory of his dad, and is urging others to join him.
The 17-year-old, who lives in Dartford, has set up the fundraiser and all the money he collects will be donated to the Meningitis Now charity.
Dartford Mayor Cllr John Burrell has agreed to open the run, which starts at midday on Sunday, October 23, at Central Park, Dartford.
Frankie, who is trying to enrol in the Army said: “Two months ago my best friend, my dad passed away totally unexpectedly, leaving a massive hole in my heart.”
His mother, Leia Bruce, 36, said: “I am so proud of Frankie. He has soldiered on with it all and even I struggle with it. He’s an inspiration and he wants to make his dad proud. Frank and his dad were amazingly close, they were more like best friends.”
She said his school friends from Harris Academy, Falconwood, were also helping him and supporting him to organise the run.
Frankie wanted to raise at least £500 but has already smashed that with £800 pledged. He now hopes to raise more and everyone is welcome to join the run.
