The weather could not have been better for the start of this year’s summer of concerts in Central Park on Sunday.

First up on the bandstand was the Dartford Concert Band, who delighted a captivated audience with classical marching tracks, well known tunes, and even a few themes from the world of television and film.

They performed under the sun from 2pm until 4pm and set a rather high bar for those to follow, with a new band set to play at the same time every Sunday until the end of August.

Still to come in May are the Tilbury Brass Academy, this Sunday, with temperatures predicted to reach 23C.

Upcoming weeks will include UK Paper Band, East Peckham Silver Band and Orpington Concert Band, with more acts to follow from across Kent and London’s surrounding boroughs.

Dartford council leader Jeremy Kite said: “The Bandstand Concerts are always hugely popular and there’s nothing nicer than sitting in the sunshine with a cup of tea or an ice cream and enjoying the sounds of the band on a Sunday afternoon.”

Anyone who attends a concert can pull up a free deck chair or bring their own, with picnic rugs also encouraged to make the most of the hopefully sunny conditions.

Food and drinks are also available from the nearby Cafe in the Park.
