A supermarket has helped people battling loneliness and isolation with a donation of teatime treats.

Kent's Wellbeing Link, a non-profit volunteer organisation, which supports people in Dartford and Northfleet, received an "out of the blue" call from a Tesco community champion.

Angel Taylor, who is based in Erith, rang the group promising them the donation of goods, which included tea, lemon drizzle and cupcake mixes, eggs and biscuits, to help their anxious and isolated members feel better.

Regular meetings between people from the organisation have been suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Julie Quick, from the non-profit group, said: “There were so many delighted smiles and thanks as we delivered the bag of treats to our members and everyone was so delighted to hear about Tesco Erith’s thoughtfulness at such a difficult time.

"Our members told us that knowing that you may be out of sight but not out of mind is so important and has given us the lift we needed during the stressful period of lockdown.”
