All lanes have now reopened after traffic was held for two hours following a three-vehicle crash on the A2.

The coastbound carriageway between the M25 junction 2 for Darenth and the B255 for Bean was closed following the incident, involving two cars and a lorry, at around 3.30pm.

National Highways is reporting all lanes are now open but motorists are still facing delays of up to one hour stretching back five miles along the A2 from Blackfen to the M25 junction.

Earlier all four lanes were shut as fire engines, police and ambulances attended the scene.

Paramedics assessed and treated two people at the scene before one patient was taken to Kings College Hospital, in London, for further medical treatment.

Police also attended and a spokesperson for the force said one person has been reported for careless driving.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was called to assist the South East Coast Ambulance Service following the crash.

Three fire engines attended and its crews had left the scene by 4.30pm.

Eventually, just one lane was closed and the carriageway was fully reopened around 5.30pm.

National Highways traffic officers were also in attendance.
