There are long delays for drivers trying to get from Kent to Essex after one of the tunnels at the Dartford Crossing was closed.

The right hand tunnel was shut at 8pm last night for roadworks and did not re-open until after 10am.

An earlier accident anticlockwise from J1A (Swanscombe) to J31 (Lakeside / Purfleet) also caused delays, but this has since been cleared.

Drivers can expect very slow traffic between these two junctions. Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume between 2.15pm and 2.30pm.

One of the tunnels has been closed since 8pm (7821020)
Traffic will take some time to ease (7821038)

It comes on the same day a 13 mile stretch of the M2 is closed from Sittingbourne for urgent repairs.
